Do we need a car during our stay?

A car is not strictly necessary if you plan a relaxed holiday focused on Casa Opala and its immediate surroundings. The property is peaceful and private, perfect for unwinding. You can easily reach the island via ferry, which is a scenic and convenient way to arrive. However, if you wish to explore multiple spots beyond Olhão: such as beaches, villages and hidden gems across the area having a car is highly recommended. It gives you full flexibility to discover the region at your own pace and make the most of your stay. For shorter trips or day excursions, taxis and local transport are also available.

Parking is available on the streets around the house, but the parking spaces are very narrow. Parking in the old town is truly an experience. On the plus side, it's free in most areas (but not all, so please take care). Park best on this main street: Rua Almirante Reis (A wider 2 way street to park).

Tap water on the island is safe for brushing teeth and cooking. However, most visitors prefer bottled water for drinking due to taste and mineral content. Bottled water is widely available in local supermarkets.

Arrival and departure: Check-in time is from16:00 (4.00pm) (WET) on the day of your arrival, as to ensure that the house is clean and ready to welcome you.Check-out time is at 10:00 (10.00 am) (WET) on the day of your departure. Enter through the front door by a digital key pad (we will share the doorcode when you arrive). The dates of your stay, stated at the end of the terms and conditions, can not be changed without our prior written agreement.For safety reasons Its not allowed to enter the house earlier than the check in time (for the safety of our cleaners and quests).

Casa Opala is perfectly located in a peaceful area, offering privacy and stunning surroundings, while still being within easy reach of the island’s most beautiful highlights. For exploring the nearby islands, you can take a short water taxi or ferry from Olhão (around 15–20 minutes by car from Casa Opala) to Armona, Fuseta, or Ilha da Culatra. Tavira Island beaches are also easily accessible and are among the closest sandy spots to the town. Some of the must-visit beaches include: Praia da Ilha de Armona: approximately 25 minutes by car and ferry from Casa Opala. Praia da Ilha da Culatra: about 30 minutes by car and ferry. Praia de Barril: roughly 35 minutes by car and ferry, perfect for families and nature lovers. Praia da Ilha de Farol: around 40 minutes by car and ferry, known for its pristine sand and crystal-clear water. Praia da Marinha: about 1 hour 15 minutes by car, ideal for a scenic day trip along the Algarve coast.
